An unnamed victim was found dead on the premises after local firefighters put out a fire at a “fully engulfed” structure on King Drive Tuesday.
A structure fire with a person trapped inside was reported at 4 p.m. Tuesday at 48 King Drive, off U.S. Hwy. 341 between Jesup and Gardi.
Jesup, Screven, Gardi and Georgia Department of Corrections firefighters responded to the report, along with Wayne County Sheriff’s Office deputies and detectives, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office Thursday afternoon.
Fire units brought the fire under control and located a deceased person inside the structure, according to the release.
The scene was turned over to the state fire marshal’s office for investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The victim’s name is currently being withheld because of the active investigation and to ensure proper notification of next of kin, according to the release.
