Jamie Coye Overstreet Jr.

Jesup—Jamie Coye Overstreet Jr., 47, died April 30, 2024.

He was a lifelong resident of Jesup. He was born to the late Diane Hammond and the late James (Jimmy) Coye Overstreet Sr. on Jan. 23, 1977. He resided at Harborview Health Center for the past three years and was under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and he attended Wayne County public schools. He and his dad operated Overstreet Lawn Services for 15 years.

He loved Jesup and all the people of Wayne County and attended every sporting event with his dad. He was known as “The Yellow Jacket Mascot.”

Survivors include his aunts and uncles, Mary O. (Ron) Burroughs of Savannah, Darlene H. (Bill) Antley of Port Saint Joe, Florida, and Ricky Hammond of Jesup, and multiple cousins and extended family, including the Millers.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date. 

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

 

Meta Joyce Sutton Long

Jesup—Meta Joyce Sutton Long, 93, of Odum died May 2, 2024.

Known as “Mema,” she was a longtime homemaker and had various other jobs throughout her life while raising three children. She enjoyed family, gardening and fishing and loved being out in her flowers.

She was predeceased by her husband, David E. Long Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Amy Long (Chad) Warren; two sons, David E. (Suzanne) Long III of Maryland and Mike (Jeannie) Long of Jesup; five grandchildren, Graham Long, Hannah Long, Chael (Devin) Long, Rachel Long and Chance Warren; and a great-granddaughter, Noa Long.

Celebration-of-life services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA 31545.

Jeffery E. “Jeff” Edmonston

Jesup—Jeffery E. “Jeff” Edmonston, 59, of Jesup died on May 6, 2024.

The Florida native had lived in Wayne County for the past 20 years and was a Baptist. He was in the U.S. Army infantry, serving two tours, and a retired Fort Stewart Civil Service firefighter.

Some favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.

His grandparents who reared him, James “Bill” and Cora Edmonston, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Renee Franklin Edmonston of Jesup; a son, Jeffery D. Edmonston of Jesup; a daughter, Nicole Lipsey of St. Simons Island; two grandchildren, Delilah and Tallulah; a sister, Gail (Sonny) Davis of Tallahassee, Florida; brothers, Jerry (Sherri) Edmonston and Chris (Shara) Edmonston, all of Tallahassee; and several nieces and nephews.

Celebration-of-life graveside services will be held May 10 (Friday) at 11 a.m. at Thompson Family Cemetery on Annie Thompson Road in Jesup with Aunt Dale Franklin speaking and the U.S. Army presentation of the United States flag. Active pallbearers will be his family.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Rinehart Funeral Home.
