Margie Williams Crabb

Jesup—Margie Williams Crabb, 77, of Jesup died June 15, 2021.

The Wayne County native had lived in Jacksonville, Florida, with her predeceased husband, Richard Crabb. They enjoyed many years of golfing, traveling and community projects in the Duval County area.

She was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Myrtis Ogden Williams; stepfather, Walt Crummey; daughter, Kathy Bloom; sisters, Merley Crummey and Mavis Highsmith; and brothers, Alex Williams Jr., Bill Frank Williams and Dillon Williams.

Survivors include two sons, Doug (Stephanie) Chadwick of Jesup and Russell Williams of Nahunta; sisters, Judy Kennedy and Sue Shuman, both of Jesup; a granddaughter, Faith (Jonathon) Morris; and two great-grandchildren, Graham and Jace Kicklighter.

Graveside funeral services were held June 17 from H. Warren Smith Cemetery at Jacksonville Beach, Florida, with the Rev. Stanley Todd officiating.

Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

James Fred

“Jimmy” Smith

Jesup—James Fred “Jimmy” Smith, 70, of Jesup died June 15, 2021.

The Wayne County native was a retired IBM employee and was honored to serve his country in the Special Forces Division of the U.S. Army, Marine and Navy. He was proud of his native American heritage, and he was at home always enjoying the mighty Altamaha River and all it offered with his wife, friends and his fur babies, Gator and Sandy.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Nellie Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Angie Griffis Smith of Jesup; daughter, Jamie (Fred) Schembri of Rochester, Minnesota; son, J.D. Smith of Rochester, Minnesota; and four grandchildren.

Special memorial services are being held by the family with a “21-gun salute” from his wife and family.

Joan Scott Albertson

Jesup—Joan Scott Albertson, 71 of Jesup died June 16, 2021.

The Wayne County native was a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church and a retired Georgia Department of Transportation employee.

Her husband, Hansel Grady Albertson, preceded her in death, along with her parents, Othur and Rebie Scott; a sister, Clarice Goober; and a brother, James Scott.

Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Mansfield of Jesup, and her fiancé, Kevin Hoyle; son, Joseph Anderson of Jesup; brother, Wayne Scott of Jesup; five grandchildren, Megan, Kaleb, Ridge, Lexi and Jacob; four great-grandchildren, Sophia, Harper, Quinton, J.R. and Ronan; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held June 18 in Old Bethel Cemetery with Glenn Goober officiating.

Berry Howell

Jesup—Berry Howell, 79, of Jesup died June 20, 2021.

The Appling County native had lived in Wayne County most of his adult life and was a Rayonier retiree. He enjoyed fishing and cooking.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Beatrice Howell, and a brother, Kenneth Mincey.

Survivors are his wife, Linday Proctor of Jesup; his son, Berry (Kara) Howell of Jesup; a sister, Bernice Hires of Tucker; a brother, Dennis (Michelle) Howell of Cumming; a grand daughter, Preslee Jae Proctor of Jesup; and grand-pets, Peaches and Gus.

Graveside services were held June 23 from Midway Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Rick Brown officiating.

Carolyn Starling Leggett

Odum—Carolyn Starling Leggett, 74, of Odum died June 21, 2021.

The Wayne County native was an active member of Crossroads Church of God and the Adult Sunday School Class. The homemaker was known as “Granny Cat.” She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, the apples of her eye. She also liked to camp and spend time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Lucille Starling; a sister, Laverne Jones; and a brother, Billy Starling.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Ronald Leggett of Odum; two daughters, Joy (Richard) Surrency and Ronda Leggett, both of Odum; two grandchildren, Lane and Hannah Surrency of Odum; two sisters, Johnnie Mae (Don) Woods and Sherry (Robert) Lynn, all of Jesup; two brothers, Kenny Starling and Jimmy (Lolita) Starling, all of Jesup; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held June 23 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Hulet Smith, Justin Moriarty and Pastor Brandon Stone officiating. Interment followed in Red Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Richie Leggett, Doug Stephens, Joey Wells, Robbie Strickland, Buddy Starling and Randy Roberson. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Adult Sunday School Class members.

Marcia Lynn Hoover Borer

Ludowici—Marcia Lynn Hoover Borer, 64, died June 16, 2021, at home under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

A resident of Georgia since 1991 and a former resident of El Paso and San Antonio, Texas, she was born on March 1, 1957, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the late Richard and Phyllis Bailey Hoover.

She spent her formative years in San Antonio where she graduated from Douglas McArthur High School. She was a wife and mother first and foremost, although she worked several different jobs outside the home throughout her life, including a position as an associate at Walmart, a manager at Goody’s, a real estate agent, and, last, owner of her own scrapbook store in Hinesville called From Scraps to Memories.

In her spare time, she loved shopping and was known to frequent the clearance racks in search of a deal too good to pass up. She was an expert quilter and was a longtime member of the Wayne County Quilt Guild. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and taking camping trips in the family recreational vehicle.

In addition to her parents, her brother, Richard Hoover Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Gene Borer of Ludowici; three children, Tami (Mike) Rider of Hines-ville, Jimmy (Julie) Goll of Midway and Roman Borer of Richmond Hill; four stepchildren, Erin Whitesel of Neligh, Nebraska, Ryan Borer of Omaha, Nebraska, Curtis Borer of Neligh, Nebraska and Melanie Borer of Omaha, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended-family members.

Private memorial services will be held with interment in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
