Marie “Fritz” Reddish Sutton

Jesup—Marie “Fritz” Reddish Sutton, 93, of Jesup died June 20, 2021.

The Wayne County native was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Shirley Clark Sunday School Class. Her family said it was so blessed to have her in Savannah for the past six years.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, being “Nana”  to her grandchildren and sharing good food with others.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon (Brad) Baldwin and Vicki (Derek) Miles, all of Savannah; grandchildren, Shane (Kami) Baldwin, Lauren Miles, and Chase (Karen) Miles, all of Savannah; and great-grandchildren, Makay and Briggs Baldwin, Walker and Malachi Miles.

Celebration-of-life services were held June 24 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Vann Dempsey and Jason Martin officiating. Interment was in Jesup City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were family and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 9, Jesup, GA 31598.

Frances Thomas Houston

Jesup—Frances Thomas Houston, 79, of Jesup died June 27, 2021.

The Baxley native had lived most of her life in Wayne County and was a member of Northside Bible Baptist Church. She was an AVON representative for 20 years and loved to keep her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her son, George Henry Houston Jr.

Survivors include two sons, Gregory T. (Darlene) Houston of Jesup and Gerald Houston of Brunswick; several grandchildren, Summer Reaves, Melanie (fiancé Mack Newbern) Houston, Bradley Houston and Clayton Williams; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held June 30 at Northside Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Anthony Hipps officiating.

Interment followed in the Concord Cemetery in Ludowici. Active pallbearers were Brad Houston, Donnie Thomas, Zachary Kicklighter, Roy Mroczkowski, Nelson Brown and Clayton Williams.

Annie Lois Jones

Jesup—Annie Lois Jones, 91, died June 28, 2021, at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

A native and lifelong resident of Wayne County, she was born on March 31, 1930, to the late Robert E. and Nora Dent Warren. She devoted her life to the care of her beloved family. Her work ethic was second to none, and there was no job she was afraid to take on, her family said. Her joy was through acts of service to others, including cooking and sewing, both of which she had mastered.

She was a longtime member of Jesup Christian Fellowship.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Connell Jones Jr.; her sisters, Evelyn Harrell, Eleanor May and Virginia Brady; her grandson, Andrew Joseph Jones; her granddaughter, Leslie Jones Crank; and her son-in-law, John Pickett.

Survivors include her children, Clarence Connell Jones III of Hamilton, Robert W. (June) Jones of Odum, Bonnie Pickett of Michigan and Fran (Myra) Jones of Odum; a sister, Thelma Thomas of Jesup; grandchildren, Robby (Tammy) Jones Jr., Aaron Jones, Jason (Megan) Jones, Ellen (Jake) Hendrix, Adam (Paige) Jones, Jana Edwards and Paul (Nissi) Pickett; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended-family members.

Graveside funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. in the Warren Family Cemetery with the Rev. R.M. Warren officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the services at the cemetery.

Lanny James “Big Daddy” Franks

Tifton—Lanny James “Big Daddy” Franks, 70, of Tifton, died June 24, 2021, at his residence.

Born Dec. 18, 1950, in Tifton, he was the son of the late James Wallace Franks and Maxine Tyson Franks. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Mary “Jan” Davis Franks, and one brother, Lenn Madison Franks.

Before retiring, he was employed with Averitt Express, and he was a member of Corinth Free Will Baptist Church in Tifton. He participated in Snowman’s Run to benefit Wounded Veterans, and he loved Fords and the University of Georgia Bulldogs.

Survivors include two daughters, Johnna Franks Barrentine and Gregg Horne aka “The Kid” and Kayla Franks (Justin) Brantley all of Tifton; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Diane Franks and Ronald Parten of Ashburn and Wanda Franks Cofield of Tifton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Randy and Joyce Drawdy Franks of Jesup and Ronny and Sherrie Brewer Franks of Jasper; a sister-in-law, Lisa Koella Franks of Sanibel, Florida; four grandchildren, Brady Barrentine, JoLynn Barrentine, Anna Grace Horne and Issac Irions; a special friend, Betsy Stobbs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His funeral service was held June 27 in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Jimmy Franks, the Rev. Josh Bennett and the Rev. Dale Bishop officiating.  He was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. 

Casey “Turtle” Walker, Nick Hodnett, David Walker, Jon Miles, Braden Culpepper and Chris Lee served as pallbearers.
