Charlett Mansfield Bargeron

Panama City, Florida—Charlett Mansfield Bargeron, 85, of Panama City, Florida, died March 1, 2022.

She was born on Jan. 21, 1937, in Jesup. She and Joe T. (Jobie) Bargeron first met as children, and it wasn’t long before he stole her heart. They had an incredible love story and just recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Shortly after their planned elopement and marriage, her husband began a career serving his country in the U.S. Army, which led to many moves across the United States and abroad. She evolved effortlessly as a military wife, always adapting, making friends and getting involved in every community.

As their love story progressed, they were blessed with three children who were each born in a different state. She was a loving mother, staying home and raising her children until the youngest entered school. At that time, she returned to the 11th grade as a full-time student at Jesup High School, graduating with honors. She fulfilled this commitment that she had made to herself while having three elementary-aged children and a husband in Vietnam.

Although she was a woman of very small physical stature, she was a pillar of strength for her family. She worked in retail management until retirement.

Throughout her life she was a voracious reader, and one would rarely see her without her eyes on some type of publication. As a young girl, she learned to sew and became an excellent seamstress, applying her meticulous nature to everything she created. Later in life, she became interested in genealogy and pursued that passion until her health took her down a different path.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Colon H. Mansfield and Mary Belle Elliott Powers; a stepmother, Fina Mansfield; a grandson, David Bargeron Jr.; and her brother, Joseph E. (Gerry) Powers of Valdosta and their infant son, Joseph E. Powers Jr.

Survivors include her husband (retired) Master Sgt. Joe T. Bargeron; three children, David Bargeron of Hortense, Barry (Ritta) Bargeron of Jesup, and Cassandra (Kenneth) Ingram of Marietta; grandchildren, Darrell (Pebbles) Bargeron, Rebecca (Sidney) Steverson and Dennis (Kaley) Bargeron, all of Jesup, and Allison West of Canton; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held March 8 from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Todd officiating. Private family interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
